When Will My Baby Start to Get Teeth?
We all grow at different rates and our teeth are no exception. Teething, the eruption of primary (baby) teeth, varies for each child. Children’s teeth begin forming before birth and can erupt through the gums as early as four months of age. As a general guideline, the first primary teeth begin coming through around six months of age. These are usually the lower front central incisors, which are then closely followed by the upper central incisors. Generally all 20 primary teeth will have erupted by the age of three. Permanent teeth start to erupt around age six, starting with the first molars and the lower central incisors. This eruption process will continue until 21 years of age. The chart below is a diagram of the eruption process and should only be used as a general guideline. As mentioned before, children’s developmental rates vary therefore, your child’s teeth may develop sooner or later than the chart describes. Regular check-ups will confirm that your child’s teeth are developing properly.
