They're Just Baby Teeth!
Many parents ask, “Why are the primary (baby) teeth so important?” or “Aren’t they going to fall out anyway?” Here are a few reasons why healthy baby teeth are so important.
Primary Teeth:
- Cavities that are left unattended can become painful and lead to infection, which can possibly cause damage to the developing permanent teeth.
- Primary teeth act as natural space maintainers for the eruption of permanent teeth as well as guide the permanent teeth into the correct position.
- Aid in proper chewing, speech development, appearance and acceptance.
Note: The final baby tooth does not exfoliate or "fall out" until age 11 or 12.
